As of today, I've been married eight of my thirty-nine-and-a-third years, which means I've been married just over 1/5th of my life. 20 percent.
When I look at it like that, it doesn't seem like much. Ironically enough, however, it's hard for me to remember life without my wife and kids.
But that other 80% came first, and now I understand it was all preparation. Because eight years and three kids into this journey, I feel confident saying I've done 80% of my living in that 20%.
Megan and the kids have made me a better man in more ways than I can explain. Words come up short for this kind of gratitude, so I'll stop there.
